Below are my recommendations for the best running gear to pack when traveling. I have personally used the below items, and highly recommend them as items that will help you when running on your travels.
- Running Belt Waist Pack.
This is like a cooler, hipper version of the fanny pack. I bought this item a few years ago, and it quickly became one of my very favorite running accessories. It is great whether you’re traveling or running around home. It is slim and lightweight, yet surprisingly large enough to carry even a large phone. For reference, I have used this to carry an iPhone 6+ with a thick otterbox case, and it fit without issue. This waist pack is great for bringing your phone with you on your run, either to take pictures along your run, get your bearings via Google Maps, or for any other need that might come up.
2. Running Shoes.
This is definitely a must have item to pack when running and traveling. My personal favorite shoes are the Brooks Adrenaline. They provide great heel support and stability. Please note, though, that finding a great running shoe is a matter of personal preference. I recommend going to a local running store and having the associates assist you with finding the best shoe for you.
3. Wristwatch.
I also highly recommend bringing a great wristwatch. I love my Apple Watch, with built in fitness app, including a running app that tracks the time, distance, and calories burned on your run.
For a lower tech option, I often bring a basic digital wristwatch with me as well. This has all the functionality you need to track the time of your run.
4. Nike Dri-FIT running shirt.
I love this shirt for its lightweight design and comfort. It helps keep you cool in hot weather, it breathes well, and it is very comfortable to wear and easy to move in throughout your run.
5. RoadRunner Running Shorts.
These are my go to running shorts. I love them. One requirement for me is that my running shorts have zippered pockets to keep items secure, which can be surprisingly hard to find! These shorts have two front zippered pockets (perfect for carrying hotel room keys or a small change purse.) They are also just really comfortable and easy to run in, with good stretch and flexibility.
6. Knuckle Lights for Runners.
When traveling, you may find yourself running at unusual times of the day (or night), either due to timezones, scheduling issues, or busy itineraries. A number of years ago, I was on the lookout for a running accessory that I could use to light my way when running in the dark. This product is my favorite, because of its small, simple design. It doesn’t get in the way when you’re moving around a lot on a run. Each light comes with a strap that you simply wrap around your hands. The strong lights will automatically light the path ahead of you as you run. The one negative is that they only illuminate a small area in front of you, but generally I have had no issues running in complete darkness with this.
